Where to Swim in Rokiškis: Beaches, Ponds and Lake Trips

8 min read

A swim can be a small part of a day in Rokiškis or the reason to head out into the countryside. Stay in town for a sandy beach and a game of volleyball, find a picnic spot among the pines, or make a longer outing of it at Lake Sartai.

These nine places offer different ways to spend time by the water. Start with the two town options if you want to keep things simple; the smaller ponds and lakes suit a trip into the surrounding villages. Salos, Bradesiai and Pandėlys give you reasons to explore further.

Rokiškis Lake: an easy choice in town

Rokiškis town · View on map · Visitor information (Lithuanian)

For a straightforward beach afternoon, start here. Rokiškis Lake has a sandy shore, a floating jetty and space for more than swimming: there are beach volleyball and basketball areas, plus a playground for children.

Changing cabins, benches, paths along the shore and a nearby car park make it a practical choice for a group. You can spend time together by the water without everyone having to do the same thing. Water activities are offered in summer; check with the operators for opening times and prices.

Velniakalnis ponds: bring a ball as well as a towel

Sporto g. 13, Rokiškis · View on map · Visitor information (Lithuanian)

Velniakalnis combines time by the water with some of the town’s outdoor sports facilities. Beach volleyball courts, tennis courts and exercise equipment sit alongside the recreation area, with shelters and paths for anyone who would rather take a break or go for a walk.

There are two swimming areas here. Wooden jetties, grassy banks and patches of water lilies give the ponds a different feel from the town’s sandy lake beach. Have a look around before settling on a spot. You may also see this place listed as Velykalnis, including in the tourism centre’s information.

Bajorų II: a village swimming spot with a jetty

Ežero g. 6B, Bajorai · View on map · Visitor information (Lithuanian)

Just outside the town options, Bajorų II offers a tree-lined bank and a wooden jetty looking across the pond towards the village. There is a changing cabin and a set of swings, with room to settle by the shore or sit under the trees.

The name matters when choosing your destination: Bajorų II and Bajorų I are separate ponds. Use the map pin for the swimming spot on Ežero Street; the simpler shoreline near Misiūniškis is described below.

Bajorų I near Misiūniškis: a simpler stretch of shore

Near Misiūniškis, in the Bajorai area · View on map · About the pond

The photographs of this spot show a wooden jetty with a railing, a grassy approach and trees shading the bank. It is a modest place to stop by the water, with a more natural shoreline than the developed swimming area at Bajorų II.

Water plants grow along parts of the edge, and access varies along the bank. The map pin marks the photographed spot near Misiūniškis. Take a look at the entry into the water when you arrive and plan for a simple stop without relying on beach facilities.

Lake Vyžuona: make time for a woodland walk

Iciūnai, Rokiškis district · View on map · Visitor information (Lithuanian)

At Iciūnai, a broad wooden jetty reaches out into Lake Vyžuona, with a sandy approach to the water beside it. This is a useful option when you want a countryside setting with basic facilities already in place.

The recreation area has a changing cabin, a toilet, a table and benches, plus a small car park and a fire-pit area. Allow time to explore the woodland paths as well as swim. A picnic and a walk give you a reason to stay for the afternoon.

Miliūnai pond: a picnic among the pines

Miliūnai area, off the Rokiškis–Juodupė road · View on map · Visitor information (Lithuanian)

Miliūnai is worth choosing for the time you can spend on the shore as much as for the water itself. The pond sits among woodland, with picnic tables, benches and fire pits beneath the trees. A path leads around the water, and there are more tucked-away places to stop on the opposite bank.

The recreation area is about 4.5 km from the main Rokiškis–Juodupė road. The photographs show a jetty with railings and stretches of natural bank where water plants grow. Bring a picnic and leave time to look around before choosing your spot.

Salos and Lake Dviragis: add a manor to your day

Salos, Rokiškis district · View on map · Visitor information (Lithuanian)

Salos gives a day out two easy focal points: the manor and its park, and the swimming area on Lake Dviragis. Walk around the grounds, then head to the lakeshore, or save the manor visit for after your swim.

The recreation area beside the park has a jetty, a changing cabin, benches, toilets and a fire pit. There is also a car park and a small observation tower overlooking the lake. It is a useful choice when some of your group want to swim and others are more interested in sightseeing.

Good for

Lake Sartai at Bradesiai: stay for the day, or the night

Zalvės g. 5A, Bradesiai · View on map · Campsite information (Lithuanian)

Bradesiai makes sense when the lake is the main event. The campsite on Lake Sartai has a floating jetty, shelters, fire pits and changing cabins, along with beach volleyball and football areas. There is enough here to plan a day around swimming, eating outdoors and playing a game together.

For an overnight stay, there are paid tent pitches and ten motorhome pitches with electricity, water and wastewater connections. Showers, toilets and a surfaced car park are also available. Check the campsite’s current season dates, availability and charges before making plans.

You can also work the Lake Sartai observation tower at Baršėnai into the trip for a view across the lake and surrounding countryside.

Plan ahead

Bradesiai is a campsite with paid services. Check which charges apply to a day visit as well as to an overnight stay.

Pandėlys park pond: a stop while exploring the district

Rokiškio g. 3, Pandėlys · View on map · Visitor information (Lithuanian)

Keep the pond in Pandėlys town park in mind if your route takes you through this part of the district. It gives you a place to break up the journey with a swim and a walk along the park’s paths.

The site has a jetty, a changing cabin, benches, a playground and a beach volleyball area, with parking available. It works well as one stop in a day spent exploring the surrounding area.

Good for

Adding a swim and a park walk to a day around Pandėlys.

Build the outing around the time you have

For a swim while staying in town, start with Rokiškis Lake or Velniakalnis. For a picnic in a greener setting, look at Vyžuona or Miliūnai. The two Bajorai ponds give you smaller places to stop nearby, with more facilities at Bajorų II.

If you have a full day, choose what you would like to do alongside swimming: visit the manor at Salos, spend the day at Bradesiai on Lake Sartai, or explore Pandėlys and its park. Each map link points to the place described above; the tourism-information links are in Lithuanian.
